Ideas for Creative Content

Congratulations! You have finally launched your social media accounts! Your content plan started strong for a while but now...

Are you struggling to find new creative ideas for content?

Content that will engage your ideal audience while building brand awareness and ultimately attracting sales to your business?

In this post, I am going to give you a few ideas for content you can add to your next social media calendar that will fill in the blanks in no time and have your brand looking fabulous and fly. Let's get started!

Create a series

Creating a series is a great way to provide consistency for not just your audience but you as well. It provides a structure you can build the rest of your content plan on. The series can be weekly or monthly.

It could look like:

  • Tips that are relevant to your industry

  • A monthly e-newsletter or recap that updates your audience with things they may have missed and things they can look forward to in the next month from your brand or business

  • An update for when new content is released: a blog, vlog or post.

  • Throwbacks to old content (#tbt #throwbackthursday)

  • Live sessions where you invite your audience to discuss a certain topic

  • If you are selling physical product perhaps this is where you highlight your weekly special or a "product of the month"

You can make this as simple or as complex as you want. The idea is consistency. You want to build trust with your audience by showing up regularly.

If you are now starting to create content, using a series to add some routine may be a good way to challenge yourself to produce content regularly. It takes discipline but it will pay off in the long-term for your brand.

Reposting community content

User-generated content. One of your customers tags you in a post using your product? Share it.

People respond well to seeing others using and endorsing your brand.

Doing so regularly will also encourage others to tag you and become unofficial brand ambassadors which is a great way to increase your reach and build brand awareness.

With permission, share reviews or feedback from your customers. Depending on your platform, regularly invite your customers to leave a review.

This is another great way to build your brand. No matter how much you toot your own horn, there is power in other people validating your claims and building your community.

Collaboration

Consider collaborating with other brands in the industry that compliment your own and could be mutually beneficial. This is a great way to introduce your brand to new audiences as well as create new content. A common example you may all be familiar with is when food brands collaborate with chefs and food bloggers to feature their products in new recipes.

Think of brands or influencers in your own community who would make a suitable partner for your brand and consider doing a few pieces of content with them that they could share on their own pages and thus attract a new audience to your own page and vice versa.

Behind the scenes

Taking your audience behind the scenes is a great way to create transparency and build trust with your audience.

When people see the story behind something, they are likely to appreciate it even more.

If you have an upcoming big event, this is a great way to tease your audience and build excitement as you countdown to the big day.

It is a way to build your brand's character. It is an opportunity to showcase the passion, the effort and all the hard work that goes into your product or service. It takes your audience along a journey and helps to build a relationship with them so that they feel like they are part of the process too. As they adopt your success as their own they are more likely to share it with others.

Competitions

Competitions and giveaways are a fantastic way to engage your community in the short term. You could plan these seasonally, around certain holidays, or whenever you would like.

They can be a good way to fill in quiet spaces in your social media calendar.

You can run them for a week or more. I would caution that longer than a month to 2 months, the novelty may start to wear off depending on the level of activity.

Consider your objective and build your competition around that. They are an opportunity to incentivize certain behaviour. Are you trying to highlight some of your most loyal customers? Are you trying to encourage purchases to be able to win? Are you rewarding customers who reshare certain content and thus helping you to build your audience?

Even if the competition is not run online, consider creating content from it anyway. Are you going to announce the winners online? If it is a physical event like a sport or a shopping spree, record it. Photos and videos from such events can make extremely entertaining content for your pages later on.

FAQs

Have you been receiving a lot of questions around a particular topic? Use it to your advantage and turn the response into a piece of content. Chances are if a lot of people are asking the question, there are others out there also looking for the answer.

Seasonal content

This would include holiday greetings or perhaps large global events. For example, if you are a sports brand, you would likely want to pay attention to when certain sporting seasons are taking place and dedicate some content towards discussing that.

There are also calendars with International Days. You do not need to send a greeting for every single one. Select the ones that are most relevant to your brand and important to your audience.

Reuse & Recycle

At the end of the day, do not be afraid to repurpose existing content. Every few months I love to bring back popular blog posts for a "throwback Thursday" to introduce it to new audience members who may have missed it the first time it was published.

For some of my clients, I love going back to old photo albums and using pictures where someone has a fun expression and captioning it to be relevant to a current campaign.

Not every campaign needs to have all-new photography. If you have original content you know you have not exhausted as yet, see how you can repurpose it and refresh it for your feed.

This is by no means an exhaustive list. There are LOTS of other ways to create new content and people are always coming up with new ideas on top of that. But I do hope this gets you started and less worried about tackling your next content plan.
